Tisbury town officials have narrowed their search for the next town administrator down to two finalists.

The select board will interview Sonia Alves-Viveiros and Joseph J. LaCivita at noon on Wednesday for the town’s top post, with current town administrator John (Jay) Grande set to step down at the end of the year.

Ms. Alves-Viveiros and Mr. LaCivita were selected from 22 applicants by a committee of town volunteers, working with the professional search firm Community Paradigm.

Ms. Alves-Viveiros is the business administrator for Edison, N.J., in the Raritan Valley. Mr. LaCivita is the general manager for Watervliet, N.Y., north of Albany, where he oversees all city departments.

Mr. LaCivita holds a bachelor’s degree from Empire State College in Albany, part of the New York State university system, and is completing a master’s program in public administration at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, according to a report on the finalists from Community Paradigm.

He became the general manager for Watervliet in 2020 after 12 years as director of planning and development for Colonie, N.Y.

From 1998 to 2008, Mr. LaCivita worked for the Empire State Development Corporation as senior vice president, deputy commissioner and chief executive officer, according to his resume.

Ms. Alves-Viveiros earned both her public administration master’s degree and her bachelor’s degree from Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J. and is certified as a qualified government procurement agent by Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J., where she also teaches government procurement to students.

Her resume lists fluent reading and writing skills in Spanish and Portuguese and more than 12 years of municipal employment in New Jersey, including jobs as city manager for Englewood, business manager for Maplewood and deputy city clerk for Summit.

The select board will begin the interviews at noon Dec. 18 in Katharine Cornell Theatre, with the second interview commencing at 1 p.m.

After the interviews, the select board will hold an executive meeting to decide between the candidates, followed by a return to open session.
