Arianna Peters and Dennis Rose thought their New Year’s day would be spent eating pizza in their home in Oak Bluffs. But the baby they weren’t expecting for another week decided she also wanted to celebrate and consequently changed their plans.
Maisie Rose was born on Jan. 1 at 6:26 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital, the first baby born on the Island in 2025. Maisie weighed six pounds and six ounces.
“I ordered Edgartown Pizza when they broke her water and the baby came before the pizza got here,” Mr. Rose said.
Ms. Peters said Maisie is in good health and that she can already tell the little one is going to be curious.
“When she came out she was just stretching her legs,” Ms. Peters said. “She’s doing really good and is always looking around.”
The parents said Maisie's older siblings are excited to welcome their little sister home. Mr. Rose said he and two of his daughters also have January birthdays.
“We might have to do a shared birthday party,” Mr. Rose joked.
The couple said they were going back and forth between the name Maisie and one other option, but once they saw their new baby’s face, they knew Maisie was the perfect fit.
On Thursday, Maisie and her parents were settling in well.
“We love you and happy New Year,” Ms. Peters told Maisie.
