One Bad Crab is coming to the Film Center in March.
The documentary was created by Vineyard Haven independent documentary filmmaker Sandy Cannon-Brown, and the premier on March 9 will be hosted by Tisbury Waterways, Inc.
The 38-minute film tracks the invasive European green crab, the Latin name for which is Carcinus maenas, which translates as “raving mad crab.” The crustacean is voracious, with a wide-ranging appetite that can undermine commercial and recreational shellfish resources wherever it appears.
It was primarily shot on Martha’s Vineyard and features those at the forefront of the efforts to protect the Island’s shellfish resources, including Martha’s Vineyard Shellfish Group executive director Emma Green-Beach, Edgartown shellfish constable Rob Morrison, Chilmark shellfish constable Isaiah Scheffer, and Tisbury shellfish constable Danielle Ewart.
The screening begins at 4 p.m. Afterwards, Emma Green-Beach will moderate a discussion with a panel that includes Edgartown shellfish constable Rob Morrison, Mary Parks, founder and executive director of GreenCrab.org, and retired Edgartown shellfish constable Paul Bagnall.
