March is here and our shoes are laced up for what’s typically the month where a meteorological smorgasbord is served. Warm, cold, rain, sleet, snow, sun, wind and any other term that describes the weather is something Mother Nature will consider dishing out. She’s preparing us for the vernal equinox that will arrive on our doorstep in about two weeks time.

It’s the month of odd jobs and projects. It’s the month that preps us for what spring will bring. Oddly, my intent was not to rhyme in that last sentence, but I welcome the little glimpse of poetry because a poet I am not. I digress.

March is also the month that welcomes back our February travelers. The Patty and Matt Poole clan returned from a Puerto Rican escape. As I mentioned to Matt, it’s a true treasure what your adult kids want to and willingly vacation with you. Alex, Natalie, Ben and a couple stellar significant others were in the mix.

Tim Carroll and Genc Brinja have returned from a Caribbean cruise and a few days in Puerto Rico, too. They experienced relaxation, adventure and everything in between. Dear friend Tilma and her pup Hunter looked after Miki the Alaskan KleeKai while they traveled.

Cory Medeiros has returned to his post as the Tisbury School resource officer after a long weekend playing golf in Florida. He timed his visit perfectly and aligned with the buzz of the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches. If you’re a golfer, PGA events are exciting.

As I mentioned last week, Susan Heilbron got herself a new knee. I also mentioned the surgery went really well. The surgery went so well that their wonderful visiting nurse, Comfort, has already kicked Susan off her schedule. I’m sure there’s still some PT to be done, but Susan is back out and about looking no worse for the wear. Strength and perseverance are two words that definitely describe this new inductee to the octogenarian club.

After playing a slew of local gigs, Delanie Pickering will venture to Texas for the first time. For one night only, Saturday, March 8, Delanie will take the stage at the Rosewood Soul Series in Austin. “Jazz Masters vs. Modern Blues,” will, I’m sure, not disappoint Delanie’s first Austin experience.

If you find yourself in Rhode Island this weekend, members of the MV Derby committee will be manning booths 905 and 906 at the 21st annual New England Saltwater Fishing Show at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence. It’s sure to be a fun time seeing many familiar faces out of context.

Barbara Morgan Armstrong has been participating the “Look! Shoot! Submit! Repeat!” 52 Frames Photography photo challenge. It’s a challenge that reminds you to carve out a little time to look at your surroundings from a different perspective. It’s a challenge that prompts you to take a photo of that moment through a lens that challenges you to see your day-to-day world just a little differently. Barbara’s work is really lovely. If you don’t follow her on Instagram, you should seek her out.

A celebration of Barbara Murphy’s far reaching and vibrant life, albeit too short, will be held at the Community Center on Sunday, March 16 at 2 p.m. We are all invited to bring stories, memories, a favorite small dish or dessert and, most of all, joy and laughter. Barbara would have liked that.

Nancy Aronie has put another Jump Start Your Memoir workshop on the calendar. For all of you aspiring to put your story down on paper, this might be the ideal way to kick it into gear. The workshop is right here in town May 9 to 10. let your fingers type a little text message off to Nancy for the full scoop at 508-274-4286. She says she will even feed you lunch on Saturday.

As we all emerge from hibernation, I share a three worded motivational quote (spotted on a coffee mug) to put you in the proper mindset while you’re soaking up the sunshine: Make Kindness Loud.
