Chilmark voters passed three overrides relating to the schools during the annual town election Wednesday.

The Proposition 2 1/2 overrides total approximately $750,000 and support rising costs throughout the school district, school officials have said.

The first question asked voters to dedicate about $451,000 to fund the operation of the Up-Island Regional School District, and passed by a 176-30 vote. The second was $90,000 to fund the town's share of the regional high school budget. That got the green light in a 177-30 vote. The last question involved $200,000 for HVAC repairs at the West Tisbury School and taking down the bell tower at Chilmark School. The third question was approved in a 146-56 vote.

The overrides were initially approved by voters during the annual town meeting Monday evening.

Because the overrides have been approved, taxes are expected to go up, but not significantly, according to town assessor Pam Bunker. The exact increase wasn't calculated ahead of town meeting.

Matt Poole was elected with a 184-3 vote for the select board. He will replace outgoing member James Malkin, who announced he wasn’t running for reelection in January. There were no contested races in the ballot.
