The Vineyard came together on Saturday at the Agricultural Hall to support the family of Frank Rodenbaugh, who died in March at the age of two.

Collages of photos from Frankie’s short life filled the community building — scenes of him hugging his parents, sporting bright red sunglasses and playing at various spots around the Island.

In the front hall, one poster was dedicated to photos of Frankie at the Oak Bluffs School playground. It was one of his favorite places, his parents said.

Between photos of him on the swings, slides and monkey bars, the poster explained how Frankie’s parents, Julie and Matt Rodenbaugh, are honoring their son’s memory.

The couple are working with Project Headway, a preschool program within the school system, to rebuild the playground. According to the couple, the needed upgrades include installing accessible play structures and replacing the surfacing. They also want to add shade and natural elements to make the area more welcoming.

The playground was a place where Frankie and his sister Clare laughed and bonded. The two played there almost every day, his parents said. The family hopes the playground will be a continued resource for other Island children.

The Rodenbaughs are fundraising for the project on gofundmem and the initiative has already raised nearly $265,000 from over 900 donations.

Throughout the memorial, guests ate food on paper plates and napkins covered in characters from Paw Patrol, a popular kids cartoon, and stopped to watch videos of Frankie.

Mr. Rodenbaugh said he was grateful for the support his family has received.

“Today has been a great day for us in a series of not so great days,” he said. “We want to thank the community for showing up, and for all the love and support.”
