A new festival is coming to Oak Bluffs this summer.

MV Vibe Fest, which is scheduled for August 9 in Alley Waban Park, will showcase local artists, nonprofits, small businesses and culinary artists from across the Island. The event received approvals Tuesday by the Oak Bluffs select board for both amplified sound and a beer and wine permit.

Yvonne Mendez, one of the event organizers, told the select board that she hopes the outdoor market will help bring up-Island and down-Island artists together.

She also said she hopes the event will help educate visitors about the rich cultural history of the Island.

“It’s designed to appeal to those of us who love the Island, and to visitors who want to learn more about the Island and also the heritage and its people,” she said. “There’s an underlying theme of unifying and educating folks.”
