Good news, the long awaited Chappy Community Center calendars have arrived. Remember that this annual calendar is a fundraiser for the center. The calendar is not just about knowing what day it is. It is also a celebration of Chappaquiddick through the eyes of the photographers who captured and shared images of the island.

The CCC is abuzz with pre-summer activities. Yoga is now twice weekly, a per usual on Sundays at 8:30 with Yogi-Jay and now Wednesdays with Craig Ranucci at 8:30. Sign up on-line at the CCC website. While you are on the website, peruse the summer activities. Lots of great events to plan for and to sign up for.

The next CCC potluck supper is on Wednesday, June 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. Please bring a dish to serve 8 to 10 people.

On Saturday, June 20 (rain date June 21), the CCC will hold its third annual classic golf tournament at the Royal and Ancient Chappaquiddick Links. There are still several spots available, and you don’t need a team to sign up. You can sign on as a single. See the CCC website for complete information.

The annual Chappy Point to Point foot race is on Sunday June 28. Proceeds from this year’s race will be used to purchase a vessel composter to be installed at Slip Away Farm for the benefit of Chappy residents. The composter will divert food scraps and organic waste from the waste stream, reducing the volume of trash hauled off-Island and cutting the methane emissions that result when organics decompose in landfills. The finished compost will be used to enrich soil with nutrients and beneficial microbes, improving water retention, supporting healthier plant growth, and reducing the need for chemical fertilizers. This is a convenient, sustainable way to manage household waste while contributing to the productivity of Chappy’s very own Slip Away Farm.

Mark your calendars for the annual Chappaquiddick Island Association meeting on July 11 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the community center. The gathering is always entertaining and informative.

Start collecting your household hazardous waste for the collection on July 18. The Chappy groundwater committee will be organizing a group collection at the CCC that morning. Stayed tuned for further information.

The opening reception for the Chappy art festival, is on July 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. Some amazing Chappy artists and artisans from all over the Island will be featured.
