When 2026 arrived, I think Mother Nature decided to let us know who is in control. We had record breaking snow, it was cold and windy all winter. No we are in the month June and we have had a mini northeaster, the temperatures are too low for this time of the year, and we know in one day it will be 80 degrees and summer will be here. Yes, Mother Nature is in charge; now we wait to see what she has for us next.

Happy Birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Arielle De Assis, Aiden Ryan, James Le Blond and Leroy Thibodeau, who all celebrated May 31; Fletcher Foster, June 1; Olivia Silva, June 2; Adeline Chandler, Cecillia Carletti, Sophia Pimenta, Beau McLaughlin, June 3; and to Quinn Millard and Sajada Fair, who celebrate their day today June 5.

Meg Mercier, local artist extraordinaire and who has supported many local charities through her art among them Possible Dreams and animal shelter fundraiser, turned 63 on Wednesday. Yup, she was born on June 3, 1963. Happy special birthday Meg, enjoy it with laughter and gooey cake.

If you have been to one of these events you would know that Meg arrives with a blank canvas and proceeds to paint her surroundings while the event is going on. This becomes a memorable painting to be auctioned off. Her talent is amazing.

A few more summer shout-outs: traffic was backed up to Shady Oak Lane, most of the registers are filled at the Stop & Shop, there are many more bikes on the bike path, Edgartown Seafood is back in operation, the harbor has more boats arriving, the Amity running club is back meeting at Bad Martha’s, if you are an early riser the sun is shining when you get up and it is still daylight when you go to bed, some college students are arriving for summer jobs, a few more stores are opening on Main street, the children are getting excited as there are only a few for weeks of school, we are back mowing the lawn, the irises are blooming.

It has been a very busy spring and I think it will be a busy summer. Hope we can all take some time to enjoy it.

Have a great week and keep the home candles burning.
