The Louisa Gould Gallery will host an opening reception for Colors of Summer on Saturday, June 27. The exhibit will showcase 60 new works by artists Mary Parkman, Suzanne Hill and Ryan Black. All three artists will be present at the event to meet the attendees.
Louisa Gould, who started her Vineyard Haven gallery 23 years ago, said the exhibit aims to pair artists with different styles. The show will have a range of realism, expressionism and ceramics. The reception on Saturday is from 5 to 7 p.m.
The gallery showed Ms. Parkman and Ms. Hill’s pieces together last year, but this will be the first year Mr. Black’s art is added to the mix.
“He’s finding a different viewpoint, a different perspective. And his setup of light is just luscious and luminous,” Ms. Gould said. “He also has the bridge jumper series, which everyone of every age finds joyful.... It’s really just evoking that summer memory and the freedom of it.”
Ms. Gould said that the title of the exhibit, Colors of Summer, captures the mood of all unique pieces.
“They are just all to me joyful pieces that celebrate the Island and our best season,” she said.
She referenced Ms. Parkman’s flower paintings as pairing well with the season.
“The flowers for Mary, this time of year is perfect because it’s when the hydrangeas just come into bloom, it’s when the roses come into bloom, it’s when the peonies are there. So it couldn’t be more timely,” Ms. Gould said.
The exhibit officially opened Thursday June 25 and runs until July 31.
