The Chappaquiddick Island Association (CIA) will hold its annual meeting on Saturday, July 11 at the Chappy Community Center. Coffee and pastry on the porch begins at 8:30 a.m., with the meeting convening at 9 a.m. If you can’t attend in person, find the Zoom link on the CIA website home page in the coming events block.
The CIA is pleased to provide a new public convenience for the 2026 season — a portable restroom now available at Chappy Point for community use. The restroom is located in the far corner of the gravel parking lot and is intended to serve residents, contractors, visitors, beachgoers, fishermen and everyone spending time on Chappaquiddick throughout the busy summer and fall seasons.
Got house guests coming from the mainland? Tell them that instead of riding the bus or waiting in the Chappy Ferry line they can breeze into Edgartown on the Pied Piper Ferry which is now operating on a daily schedule. The last trip to Edgartown on Fridays leaves Falmouth at 6:30 p.m. Last trip out of Edgartown on Sunday is at 6:15 p.m.
Once those guests get settled in and you all need a little peace and quiet, send them over to Mytoi Garden. The adults can meditate and the kids can watch for turtles from the bridge.
Rest assured that the new owner of the Chappaquiddick Ferry, Brian Scall, is working diligently to re-establish the Simpson Lane web cameras. He is also planning to renovate the Chappy Ferry website to easily provide up-to-date information regarding such occurrences as storms and maintenance projects that may affect service. He called out his improvements crew several mornings recently at 4 a.m. to accomplish the resheathing of the long fender wall of the Edgartown slip.
Just a reminder, if you have an emergency, day or night, that requires an ambulance, the police, the fire department or the hospital emergency room, dial 911. They will alert everyone necessary, including the Chappy Ferry captain, to help you in your time of need. You don’t even have to know where you are when you call. They will know. Pets are family members, too. If you are in a big hurry to get to the emergency room on your own, call 911 so that the ferry crew can be on the look out for you to get you across quickly. Use the cut line and your flashers for easy identification.
