Our Polar Bears had a wonderful celebration for their 80th year on July 4 at the Inkwell. The dedication of Caroline’s Garden, in memory of Caroline Hunter, was initiated. There is a GoFundMe for the soil and plants and flowers we shall need to keep it going.

Artist and writer Dan Waters has an exhibit at our Martha’s Vineyard Museum through July. Stop by, and particularly check his photo of Cecilio Neto and his beloved ox, Chilmark. These two have added so much to our community.

Patti Linn has operated her hair salon in West Tisbury for 40 years. Congratulations to Patti.

Congratulations are also in order to Joha Mateo Van Osten. Joha has opened a private practice in Roslindale to help people as a social worker therapist. Joha offers private visits and virtual conversations with you. Joha grew up on Island but has been studying and working in the Boston area for years.

Yesterday on July 7 Whitney Vic’s seven-month-old daughter, Aniyah showed off her first tooth! Aniyah’s brother Lucas is certainly enjoying this little baby.

I had the great pleasure of speaking to Jesse Weiner and his wife Maggie a few days ago. They have moved to Centerville. They have two little sprites of their own, Ruby age seven and Flynn age four. I hope to see them on a visit someday soon.

I would also like a visit from my dear friend Shaw Berke and her delightful dog Sassy. Shaw and Sassy live in Florida now. Shaw has children and grandchildren. She is an accomplished artist concentrating on needlework. I have seen it and it is incomparable. She has also sent me a loaf of her homemade bread. It is expected at any moment now. I shall give you the report on that next column.

Closer to home the incomparable artist, organizer and go-getter, Susan Shea sent me one of her delightful cards this week. What a treat to get that in the mail.

Our friendly and kind greeter at Xtramart Tac Brady had her birthday on July 6. Because Tuesday is her day off we celebrated yesterday. For some reason Tac wanted to do all the cooking herself. I don’t get it. I would have cooked for her.

Steve “Maddog” Nichols observed his 91st birthday on July 4. What a great man.
