The Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival opens on Tuesday, Sept. 8, and continues through Sept. 13, offering six days of programming from around the world.

This is the 21st year for the festival, which arrives each September at the Film Center in Vineyard Haven at the end of another busy summer, with cinematic gifts and stories from off the beaten path.

This year’s event includes 13 feature length films, and a series of short films.

The festival begins on Tuesday with Reading Lolita in Tehran, the screen adaptation of Azar Nafisi’s memoir, and Filipinana, a suspenseful tale from the Philippines.

Wednesday’s lineup includes Franz, a biopic of Franz Kafka directed by three-time Academy Award-nominated director Agnieszka Holland, and The Blue Trail from Brazil.

A celebratory party anchors Thursday night, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with food from Goldie’s Rotisserie truck, and the film Calle Malaga from Spain screening at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, the journey continues with Complaint No. 713317 from Egypt, Hanging by a Wire from Pakistan and the short film competition.

Life Is Life from Italy, My Father’s Shadow from Nigeria and Sheep in the Box from Japan all screen on Saturday, and the final day’s programming includes Colors of Time from France, Unidentified from Saudi Arabia and the Siege of Paradise from Italy, along with a closing party at The Wave.
