Robert (Bob) R. Salamone, of Edgartown and formerly Delmar, N,Y., died peacefully on July 24 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, surrounded by his loving family. He was 69.

He was born in New York city to Domenico and Victoria Salamone, and received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Cortland State University. He was a teacher and house leader at the Bethlehem Central School District for 33 years, retiring in 2007. During his tenure with the Bethlehem schools he coached football, softball and middle school basketball.

He built a playground at Slingerlands School and planted and maintained a garden at the Early Learning Center. In 1997 he was named Citizen of the Year by the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce. His passion for teaching and influencing others in wellness, health and physical activity was a primary focus of his daily life.

While living on Martha’s Vineyard, which was always his dream, he was a member of the Mink Meadows Golf Club and a surveyor for the Meetinghouse Cornerway Road Association. He volunteered for the annual beach cleanup day and Possible Dreams auction.

Bob was known for his kind and generous spirit, never hesitating to lend a hand to a friend with a project. He had many loves in his life, including golf, skiing, biking, running, baking, gardening and the Yankees. He especially loved long walks to the beach with Helen, his wife of 44 years.

His love for his family was evident in all that he did, and he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Sara Maria Salamone of Queens, N.Y. and Rebecca Jones of Delmar, N.Y.; a brother, Anthony Salamone of Albany, N.Y., as well as two granddaughters and numerous devoted nieces, nephews and in laws.
