Madeleine (Reynolds) Lowell of Wellesley died peacefully on Feb. 7 at Seasons Hospice in Milton. She was 95.

Loved by many, she was known for her sweet disposition.

Born and raised on Martha’s Vineyard, Madeleine worked at the Vineyard Gazette while attending Edgartown High School. Upon graduation she served as switchboard operator at the Martha’s Vineyard U.S. Naval Air Base where she met her husband Philip in 1944. After the war they moved to Boston where she attended Vesper George School of Art and worked as bookkeeper for Longe School of Music in Watertown and Chandler School in Boston. She later settled in Wellesley where she worked for the town of Wellesley treasurer’s office until retirement. She most enjoyed being with her family, gardening, and playing bridge with friends.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Philip B. Lowell of Wellesley; and children Patricia Menard of Dedham, Constance Theroux and her husband Donald of Cranston, R.I., Robert Lowell and his wife Maureen of Paxton; and grandchildren Chantal Letourneau and her husband Damon of Tewksbury, Daniele Menard of Townsend, and Katherine Lowell and Christopher Lowell of Paxton.

She was predeceased by a sister Josephine (Reynolds) Walker of Milton.
