Marcie C. Jones died peacefully at Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on June 17. She was 92.

Born in New York city, Marcie graduated from Cathedral High School and earned a bachelor’s degree at Hunter College and a master’s degree from New York University. She loved teaching first grade and did so for 35 years, nearly all of them at P.S. 197 in Harlem.

She met Basil C. Jones, her future husband, at the age of 14, When not spending time with her family, she enjoyed spending time with her many friends and Delta Sigma Theta and Circle-Lets sisters as well as enjoying Alpha Sigma boule and guardsman activities with her husband. Her warm and lively spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her, but they will delight in the time they were able to spend in her company.

She was a full-time resident of Vineyard Haven and a regular worshiper at Saint Augustine’s Church. Ave Maria was one of her favorite songs. Blessings to her and her soul.

She is survived by her daughters Allison Crooker and Andrea Jones Grillo; granddaughter Christina Grillo; sons in law Evelio Grillo and Brad Crooker; and niece Lauren Jones Wannamaker. She was predeceased by her husband Basil.
