It’s deja vu all over again. Two weeks ago, the Cleopatra Lounge at 60 Tashmoo avenue in Vineyard Haven was such a success that it will be held again this Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. Jacqueline and Gretchen Baer are opening their family home on Sunday August 15 to anyone who missed the exquisite display of Jackie’s Eterna-Mannequins two weeks ago.
Jackie has spent more than a year creating the wondrous beaded and buttoned displays. They will be joyfully spread through the back and side yards as well as in the chic studio. Many of Jackie’s handcrafted necklaces will also be available. The company is delightful. I’ll see you there
I had the good fortune to meet the beautiful and creative grandchildren of my neighbor Betsy Shands last weekend. The kids were visiting from France and were selling lemonade on the corner. As that was my first job in life, I am very partial to young entrepeneurs. It was a hot day and the lemonade was delicious. The kids were so kind. I had a chance to use my long-dormant French. Of course, I kept mixing it up with my Portuguese! I wish them safe travels and much success in the next school year.
Our favorite seasonal author is on the Island. Crispin Hawkins is the writer of the Martha’s Vineyard mystery series. He will be signing his newest book at Edgartown Books on Saturday, August 14. I’ll see you there.
A group of my besties gave me a wonderful party on my birthday. Tac was up cooking since 5 a.m. last Tuesday morning. Sharon Fisher was a great help with preparations and assembled a collection of fabulous gifts. Piper Murphy came over and cheered us all up. And after not seeing my dear friend Tamma for two years, she flew in from Texas with her adorable doggie, Minnie. What a treat! Tamma grew up right in this town. She and Minnie will visit for a few months. Thank you all for your kind messages, texts, cards and gifts. I had a great day.
Our library has beach passes, wildlife refuge passes and Martha’s Vineyard Museum passes. All are available at the front desk. These are made possible by the Friends of the Vineyard Haven Public Library. Our library has also brought in several shelves of new books. Check them out.
The birthday bandwagon pulled along Sandie Corr-Dolby on August 7. Mya Gonsalves celebrated on August 10. And on August 17, Melissa Dolby takes the cake. Many happy returns.
