The Covid-19 vaccine bus is returning to the Vineyard on Nov. 20 and 21 to help vaccinate students ages five and up, along with school staff. The bus will be stationed at the regional high school from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Slots for Saturday are already booked up, with no room for walk-ins. There are still slots open for Sunday.
Tisbury health agent Maura Valley said the vaccine bus will be run like previous visits to the Island but with some added attractions for young children.
“We have been working with the schools and Island Health Care to make it more of a fun event,” she said. “There will be a deejay, a bubble machine and a bike raffle. Get a shot to win a bike.”
"It's a $1,000 gift certificate for a bike at Wheel Happy, provided by Island Health Care," she added. "Anyone who gets a vaccine will get a raffle ticket."
Ms. Valley said the vaccines are only available for students and school staff, not the general public. Kids five years old but not in school are also eligible. She is encouraging people to preregister.
“Preregistering is important so we have sense of availability and staffing,” Ms. Valley said.
The bus will return in a few weeks to administer second-shot doses, she added.
“Hopefully, we will have a good turnout and help our hospital to get as many kids vaccinated as possible. It’s a pretty high number, the amount of vaccinations they can do in a day.”
