Martha’s Vineyard Hospital has named a new chairman and added two members to its board of trustees.
Dr. Michael Jaff has been appointed to the top spot on the board, according to a Friday afternoon press release sent from a hospital spokesman, taking over for former chairman John Schaefer. Dr. Jaff formerly served as the board’s secretary.
Susan Crampton and Arielle Faria have also been appointed as board trustees, the release added.
The hospital’s board of trustees currently has 15 members and oversees the operations and management of Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. The hospital is part of the Mass General Brigham system.
Dr. Jaff has served on the hospital’s board of trustees since 2016. According to the release, he holds various leadership roles at Boston Scientific Corporation and maintains an appointment as a physician at Massachusetts General Hospital.
The release states that Dr. Jaff has served as a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and formerly worked as the president of Newton-Wellesley Hospital from 2016 to 2019.
Dr. Jaff resides both on Martha’s Vineyard and in Florida, the release states.
Hospital CEO Denise Schepici said Dr. Jaff brings a breadth of experience to his new post as board chairman.
“I look forward to working more closely with Michael as he takes on a larger role,” Ms. Schepici said in the release.
John Schaefer has stepped down from the board due to board term limits, hospital officials said in a follow-up email. Mr. Schaefer served on the Board from 2011 to 2022, including the past three years as chairman.
"We want to thank him for his years of service to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and Windemere," spokesman Marissa Lefebvre said in the email.
Ms. Crampton, who is a certified public accountant and has worked as the state of Vermont’s secretary of transportation, is returning to the hospital’s board after serving two previous terms, the release said. She is now a full-time resident of Martha’s Vineyard.
Ms. Faria, who works as an administrator for Edgartown’s affordable housing committee, will be new to the board, the release states. Ms. Faria is also a full-time resident of Martha’s Vineyard.
Ms. Schepici said in the release she was excited to welcome the new members to the board.
“Susan Crampton…has always been a dedicated and trusted advisor to our organization,” she said. “And Arielle Faria, whose passion and talent will undoubtedly be a guiding voice in the years to come.”
Updated to include Mr. Schaeffer's status on the board.
