Robert Joseph Brown of Stoneham and formerly of Lynn died peacefully on Dec. 30, 2022. He was 71.
He was born Oct. 11, 1951 at the Chelsea Naval Hospital. He was the loving son of the late Robert Olyn Brown and the late Charlotte L. Krause Brown. He graduated from Lynn English High School in 1969 and went on to earn a bachelor of science in finance at Boston College.
Robert began his career in the hotel industry at the former ITT Sheraton corporate headquarters located at 60 State street in Boston. At five corporate owned and managed hotels such as the Sheraton Boston hotel, he held positions including manager operations analysis, North American financial analyst and hotel controller.
He joined the Saunders Hotel Group as vice president of finance, overseeing the Boston Park Plaza hotel, the Lenox Hotel Boston, the Copley Square Hotel and the Castle at Park Plaza in Boston.
In April 2001 he was named northeast area controller for Hilton Hotels Worldwide. Four years later he became director of finance at the Hilton Boston Back Bay. He happily retired in June 2018 as the director of finance at the Burlington Marriott.
Robert enjoyed professional and community involvement. This included serving Eastern Bank as a trustee and member of numerous committees, LeadBoston Alumni Association as its secretary and the International Association of Hospitality Accountants as its vice president and treasurer. He was a former member of Laboure College’s finance committee, a member of the Community Brotherhood of Lynn and the Boston College Alumni Association.
He was a proud Boston College Eagle who lived life to the fullest. He loved cooking, music and especially enjoyed time at the annual Salem Willows Black Picnic. He and his wife Renee were longtime Island visitors before buying their second home in Vineyard Haven.
Robert was most proud of his loving family. He is survived by his wife of more than 40 years, Renee Parris Brown; daughter Elise D. Brown; son Robert J. Brown Jr.; daughter in law Gabrielle A. Brown; and granddaughter Marguerite V. Brown. He was the loving brother of Charlotte Brown Breckenridge. He was a dedicated brother in law, uncle, cousin, friend and mentor to many.
To celebrate his beautiful life, friends and family are invited to gather for service at Zion Baptist Church at 4 Adams Street Extension in Lynn on Friday, Jan. 13. Time to greet his family will be held at 11:30 a.m. and the homegoing service will be at 12 p.m.
