Abbe Burt is Tisbury’s newest select board member, elected by a narrow margin over her closest competitor in Tuesday’s four-way race to fill the vacancy left when Larry Gomez stepped down from the board for health reasons last fall.
Of 496 votes cast, Ms. Burt received 188, closely followed by Christina Colarusso with 179. Another 105 voters backed Donald Rose 2nd, and Bruce Campbell received 21 votes.
“I’m looking forward to serving the town," said Ms. Burt after the votes were tallied Tuesday evening at the Tisbury emergency services building.
The election fills the post on a interim basis, finishing Mr. Gomez's term. An election for a full three-year term will be held on May 9. Ms. Burt said she plans to run again in May. Ms. Colarusso, whose election tally was just nine votes short of Ms. Burt’s, said she’ll likely run again too.
“I don’t see why not,” Ms. Colarusso said.
After taking her oath of office at town hall on Wednesday, Ms. Burt will have her first select board meeting at 4:30 p.m. on the same day Ms. Burt said she also plans to attend the financial advisory committee meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
