Eileen C. Shannon Fichtner died quietly on Dec. 25, 2022 at her daughter’s home in Old Lyme, Conn. She was 90.

Born and raised on Martha’s Vineyard, she was the daughter of Emma L. Murphy and William J. Shannon Sr., and the step-daughter of Auranus P. Murphy.

Eileen was predeceased by her husband, Richard C. Fichtner. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Decker and her husband Peter, and two sons, Michael and his wife Laurie of Mystic, Conn. and Mark and his wife Linda of Rochester, N.Y., as well as five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Though she raised her family in Rochester, N.Y., Eileen always held the Vineyard dear. In accordance with her wishes, her ashes will be scattered at locations around the Island — an Island that, in a sense, she never really left.
