A West Tisbury School bus rear-ended a Mini Cooper Tuesday morning at the intersection of Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road and State Road in Tisbury.

No one was seriously injured and the two vehicles were unscathed, other than minor damage to the Mini Cooper’s bumper.

Tisbury police officers and EMS arrived at the intersection at 10:19 a.m. to find the vehicles pulled over in front of Morrice Florist. According to the two drivers and security footage from the bus, the Mini Cooper was hit by the bus when it stopped just past the intersection to let another car pass.

Sixteen students and two teachers were riding on the bus. Because so many passengers were involved, members of the Oak Bluffs fire department and EMS arrived to help assess people for injuries.

“When we obtained and watched the video off the school bus it was obviously an accident,” said Tisbury police Lt. Bill Brigham.

The driver of the Mini Cooper was taken to the hospital with injuries that weren’t considered serious and the bus and its passengers returned to the school.

A request for comment to school officials was not immediately returned Wednesday.
