James Howard Lobdell, 79

James Howard Lobdell of Vineyard Haven died on July 22 at his home, surrounded by family and close friends, after a seven-month bout with aggressive cancer. He was 79.

He was the husband of Virginia (Ginny) May Addicott Lobdell.

In addition to his wife, James is survived by his daughter Kristin Elizabeth Lobdell; grandchildren Michael Thomas McGuire and his wife Rachael, James Kendal Thomas McGuire and his wife Maria, Dale Thomas McGuire, Felicia Elizabeth McGuire and Katharine Ayiana McGuire; and great-grandchildren Abigail Catalia McGuire, Ayiana Fernandes, Bryson Fernandes and Maison Fernandes.

He was predeceased by his son Darren, who died in 2021.

His funeral arrangements will be held privately.

Ginny and family so sorry to hear of this passing of such a rich life. he helped many as a shop teacher. my son said he was his favorite. RIP Jim

Ginny and the whole Lobdell family. It is with a heavy heart I learned of Jim's passing. Jim and I taught shop, at the Regional H.S.for nearly 5 years.What I didn't know he showed me how to do it. He had a vast amount of knowledge of automobiles ,boats and building.We became great friends and I sailed with him a number of times.I will miss him. May you rest in peace dear friend.

Ginny and family, just heard the very sad news of Jim’s passing and have a deep hole in my heart. He was a special friend that was my first roommate at Central in 1964. His sense of humor , his sincere care for other people will be sorely missed. Love Jim Hawk
