Audrey Holding McCargo, a resident of West Palm Beach, Fla., died on Sept. 30. She was 92.
She was born in Providence, R.I. on Nov. 6, 1930, the daughter of the late Elizabeth and Robert Holding. Her father was the retired chairman of Worcester Pressed Aluminum Company.
She attended Mary C. Wheeler School in Providence, R.I. and was a graduate of Miss Porter’s School and Finch College.
In 1951, she married Donald McLean of Philadelphia and had three children, Robert McLean II and Elizabeth Woodruff, both of Vero Beach, Fla. and Clare Cross of West Palm Beach, Fla.
Audrey's favorite place was Edgartown, where she spent part of every summer since the age of 14. She was one of the first trustees of the Martha’s Vineyard Preservation Trust and was a life trustee. She was a member of the Edgartown Yacht Club.
She enjoyed wintering in Palm Beach, Fla. and was a former member of the Bath & Tennis Club and the Everglades Club.
In 1965, she married Samuel Chew Sr. of Philadelphia. They lived at Cliveden, where the Battle of Germantown took place. Eventually, Mr. Chew donated Cliveden to the National Trust for Historic Preservation. She was a member of The Philadelphia Garden Club and was actively involved in the Philadelphia Antique Show.
Audrey married Grant McCargo of Pittsburgh in 1972. Mr. McCargo, who loved boats, died in 2009. They were married for 37 years.
She is survived by her three children, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and five step children. She was predeceased by her three husbands and two sisters, Martha Pickering and Nancy Tansill.
