The U.S. Postal Service dedicated a special stamp to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital this week to thank staff for their dedication to the Island.

The stamp was unveiled Friday at the hospital by Vineyard Haven postmaster Emily Texeira, who thanked healthcare workers for their hard work.

“Together with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,  the U.S. Postal Service pays tribute to the health care community with the new commemorative forever stamp,” Ms. Texeira said in her speech.

This stamp is part of a nationwide dedication, which was announced by the postal service earlier this month.

Chief nursing and operations officer Claire Seguin thanked the post office team while acknowledging the hospital staff.

“Health care workers have been through an awful lot lately,  even past the pandemic, with all the things that we’re faced against every single day,” she said. “I know this will make everybody smile and feel a little bit better.”

A plaque was also given to the hospital to commemorate the stamp.

“I would like to dedicate this plaque to the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital and all the health care community here on Martha’s Vineyard,” Ms. Texeira said. “Your hard work does not go unnoticed and we appreciate every single one of you.”

The stamp was designed by Bryan Duefrene and was unveiled to applause from the crowd of healthcare staff and providers and post office staff.

Showing appreciation to medical staff can’t be overstated, according to Ms. Texeira.

“We need to bring awareness to the medical staff,” she said. “I don’t think they’re appreciated enough on the outside. If I can do my part just a little bit, then [I’ll do it].”
