The year’s holiday concert by the Island Community Chorus will feature traditional Irish Celtic music.

The concerts take place Saturday and Sunday at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown. The chorus is made up of 75 members of the Island community who began practicing for the show in September.

“I’m happy with the whole program,” director Bill Peak said. “It’s a lot of really nice music. We have a set of five Irish pieces in the middle which will be accompanied with fiddle and harp. That’s cool and a bit unusual.”

Rounding out the program is a series of Bach pieces, along with traditional and modern holiday carols.

“Some of the pieces are old favorites of mine and some are new things I’ve found recently,” Mr. Peak said. “It’s a lot of fun to do both of those things.”

Chorus president Nis Kildegaard said he always looks forward to the holiday performance and seeing all the hard work pay off.

“It’s almost incalculable if you put in the number of hours this choir spends [rehearsing],” he said. “We are grateful to the people in the community to come hear us sing.”

At rehearsal on Monday, the harmonies rang out in the Old Whaling Church as the singers practiced for the last time before Friday’s dress rehearsal.

“It’s a fun thing to do,” Mr. Peak said. “It’s extremely rewarding.”

The Island Community Chorus concert will be held Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. at the Old Whaling Church.
