Jerry Wacks died on Jan. 31 from the complications of ALS. He was 86.
Jerry was born in Bronx, N.Y. in 1938 to Ida and Harry Wacks. He was a proud graduate of Bronx High School of Science, Columbia College and NY medical school, downstate. All of his education was paid for by merit scholarships and grants.
He was a psychiatrist in Lexington for over 50 years. His love was helping anyone and everyone who crossed his path.
Another love was Chappaquiddick. His home was a place of entertainment for hundreds for 40 years. When built, the house was quarter of a mile from the ocean. There were many, many sunsets. Erosion took the house six weeks after his diagnosis. He probably was more upset about losing his Chappy community and pear tree than the house.
He is survived by wife Sue, son David (Katharine Gallagher) and godson Nicholas Cotterpong (Lindsay) and four grandchildren.
He will be greatly missed by his legion of friends.
Donations can be made to Temple Emunah, 9 Piper Road, Lexington, Ma. 02421 or Compassion Care ALS, P.O. Box 1052, West Falmouth, Ma. 02574.
