The Chilmark Town Affairs Council (CTAC) announced its new officers earlier this week, with Michelle O’Connor taking over as the chair.

Robin Rivera returns as vice chair, incoming secretary Morgan Baker has served on CTAC for 12 years and new treasurer Keith Fenner is set to serve his first term.

CTAC is the nonprofit organization that oversees the programming for the Chilmark Community Center.

The election comes as the Chilmark Community Center Moderator's Committee wraps up its report on community center operations for the select board.

The committee was created last spring after a contentious few months over the handling of the town’s tennis courts. At town meeting last April, the bipartisan committee was chosen to do a full review of the organizational structure of the community center and its programming.

A preliminary report released in November included recommendations from members to change the leadership of the nonprofit that oversees the center. The full report is expected to be made public this month.

Ms. O’Connor was not immediately available for comment this week. She is a resident of Chilmark and previously served for three years as the CTAC secretary, according to a statement from CTAC. She has five children, all of whom have grown up going to the center.

Former chair Suellen Lazarus, who is stepping down, said she is excited about Ms. O’Connor taking the helm.

“Michelle has an incredible love for the Chilmark Community Center and a deep understanding of what the center means to the community of Chilmark and its families,” Ms. Lazarus said. “She keeps that in mind always with everything she does.”
