The West Tisbury historical commission has completed its project to update and digitize over 300 records of historic properties inventoried by the commission from 1980 to 2000. The upgrade, entitled the West Tisbury Historic Resource Inventory project, was begun in 2007 and was funded through the Community Preservation Act.

A professional historic preservation team from the Public Archaeology Lab in Rhode Island, which won the bid to conduct the upgrade of the records, took digital images of all properties, added additional information and historical notes about properties to the existing inventory forms, created new maps and designated properties eligible for National Register status. The information is available online through a link on the West Tisbury town Web site (westtisbury-ma.gov/Boards/loc-hist-comm.html) to the Massachusetts Historical Commission cultural database (Macris) for historic sites and buildings throughout the commonwealth. The West Tisbury commission created a short tutorial on the town Web site on how to access this database for information on West Tisbury or any participating town in Massachusetts.

Anyone with information about these properties that would be helpful in more accurately documenting the historic record of the town, please email lhc@westtisbury-ma.gov, and a member of the historical commission will get back to you.
