Ah, the sounds of spring are around. The pinkletinks were chirping at Jan and Floyd Norton’s when I went up there. The sound of red-winged blackbirds, people raking and of course the sound of the sanding truck sanding the road the snow just fell on.

Happy birthday to all who celebrated their day this past week. Big balloons go out to Marjorie Pendergraft, who celebrated her day March 20; Jermaine Mendez, March 22; Angel Shepard, March 23; Colleen Carroll, March 24; and to Charlotte Hammond, who celebrated her day March 25.

Happy belated birthday to Kelsey Ivory, who celebrated her day on March 14. For her birthday, she celebrated on March 17 by going to the flower show with the Tisbury Travel Club and had a great time — plus they didn’t have to drive in Boston, so it was a nice, relaxing trip for all.

I was reminded by Tom O’Brien that the ping of the baseball bats and balls was back at the Boys’ and Girls’ Club, another sound of spring; then I woke up on Thursday to an inch of snow on the ground. Who would have ever thought it?

Beach Road was busy on Sunday with all the people out looking at the plane that had an emergency landing on State Beach. We were all very thankful that no one was hurt and pilot and passenger were not injured. But it was an attraction and many took the time for a little walk on the beach.

Saturday night there were many people out watching for the rising of the Worm Moon. The meteorologists promised a good show and they were not wrong. It was a beautiful event. We were down at the Harbor View watching over the lighthouse and we did not realize how many people had gathered until we left.

The Wacky Dance of the Woodcock is name of the guided walk about these magnificent birds, at Felix Neck next Friday, April 1, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Only in early spring, when love is in the air, does the American woodcock, a member of the sandpiper family, perform his aerial mating display. This is recommended for adults; families with older children welcome. Members pay $3, nonmembers, $5.

There will be a pasta dinner to benefit the PeaceQuilts project in Haiti on Saturday, April 2, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Federated Church parish house on South Summer street in Edgartown. Meatballs, sauce, cheese, garlic bread and cake plus lemonade, coffee or tea. The cost will be $7 for adults, $5 for children, with a $25 maximum for parents with their children. Celebrity waiters will work for “tips” (funny money to be bought at the door).

Have a great week, and keep the home candles burning.
