Emil Roland San Soucie of Ambler, Pa., died on Easter Sunday, April 24, after an extended illness. He was 79.

Emil and his family were former summer visitors to Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting cottages in Oak Bluffs. His children and grandchildren continue to spend summers on the Vineyard.

Born April 14, 1932, in Waltham, he was the son of the late Emil J. and Edna San Soucie (nee Williams) of Watertown, and brother of William San Soucie and wife, Penny, also of Watertown.

He was a graduate of the Watertown High School in 1950, and Harvard University, Class of 1954. At Harvard he was cocaptain of their track and cross-country team under Coach Bill McCurdy.

Following graduation, he relocated to Bryn Mawr, Pa., to become a customer service representative supervisor for Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania, West Philadelphia branch. Prior to his retirement after 35 years in 1989, he was director of human relations for Bell Atlantic, #1 Parkway, Philadelphia.

During his years in Pennsylvania, his homes were in Lafaytette Hill and Fort Washington, Pa., in the suburban Philadelphia area. He was a coach for Whitemarsh Biddy basketball and Babe Ruth baseball. Sons Stephen and Michael were participants on his teams. With an active interest in sports, he was an avid Philadelphia sports fan with season tickets for over 30 years.

He served as an active member of Whitemarsh Junior Chamber of Commerce as president. He was ways and means chairman and cochairman of the fundraiser for the U.S. Whitemarsh Open and Arnold Palmer (Arnie’s Army) Whitemarsh Country Club.

Mr. San Soucie was the husband of Harriet M. San Soucie (nee Till) and was the devoted father of Stephen D. (Sooch) San Souci and his wife, Francine, of Combloux, France; Michael A. San Soucie of Longwood, Fla.; Debra San Soucie Bortz of Longwood, Fla.; Linda Madsen and her husband, Robert of Bluffton, Ind.; and Stephen Myers of Spring House, Pa. He is the loving grandfather of Benjamin, Brandon, Stacy and Ashley, and great-grandfather of three and will be greatly missed.

Services were private and interment was in the Hillside Cemetery in Roslyn, Pa.

Arrangements are under the care of the Urban Funeral Home of Ambler, Pa.
