Concert Benefits Plants and Animals

Mezzo-soprano opera singer Lia Kahler-Littlefield and pianist Richard Gordon are coming to the Island to perform a benefit concert entitled, Songs for My Father. Ms. Kahler is dedicating the concert of songs and arias about flowers, plants and animals to the memory of her father, Albert Littlefield, who was born and grew up on what is now the Polly Hill Arboretum.

The concert benefits both the arboretum and the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard.

Ms. Kahler is the founder of Catalyst Concerts which does benefits for selected nonprofit organizations. As she said about the concert, “I want to celebrate the bond between people and nature as expressed in the caring for land and animals, which results in such enduring beauty as the arboretum landscape and such loving places as the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard.”

The concert takes place this Sunday, Sept. 11, at 3 p.m. at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown. There will also be a silent auction beginning at 2 p.m.

Tickets for the concert are $15, and $10 for seniors and students.
