Catherine Ferreira died on Sept. 3 at the home of her son and daughter in law, Brentford and Claire Ferreira in Long Beach, Calif.

Born in 1926, Catherine was a lifelong resident of Oak Bluffs and West Tisbury. For many years she was the bookkeeper for Brickman’s Department Store and Holmes Hole. Later she worked as a clerk at the Dukes County registry of Deeds from which she retired in 1994. During her retirement she divided her time between her sons’ homes, Fred’s in Tavernier Key, Fla., and Brent’s in Long Beach, Calif., with many happy summers spent with her friend, Cynthia Schilling, on her beloved Island. At harvest time, she frequently ventured to Lodi, N.Y., to the home and garden of her son Brian.

Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Ferreira, and her brother, Joseph Rezendes. She is survived by her sons, Brentford J. Ferreira and his wife, Claire; Brian and his wife, Polly; and Frederick and his wife, Karen. She is also survived by her two adored grandchildren, Mercedes and Brentford Ferreira Jr.; her brother, Antone H. Rezendes Sr. of West Tisbury; nieces, Cheryl Metell, Victoria Thurber, Joan Golembowski and Betty Ann Le Compte; nephews Antone H. Rezendes Jr., Joseph Rezendes Jr. and Jeffrey Rezendes. She leaves 13 great-nieces and nephews and nine great-great-nieces and nephews as well.

As Catherine was a lifelong member of the Holy Ghost Association in Oak Bluffs, her family has asked that donations in her memory be made to the Holy Ghost Association, Benevolent Fund, P.O. Box 2203, Oak Bluffs, MA 02557.
