Vets Roundtable Talk
Vineyard veterans have been working for some time to restore health clinic services for veterans at the Island hospital. A contract between the Veterans Administration and the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital expired five years ago, although no one discovered the problem until about a year and a half ago when veterans began receiving bills for services. Since then Island veterans who receive their health care through the VA have had to travel to Providence, R.I., to receive care.
The American Legion Post 257 on the Vineyard has been writing letters to the national American Legion organization about the problem. The letters have had an impact, and on Wednesday, Nov. 9, a spokesman for the the American Legion will travel to the Vineyard to hold a roundtable discussion on VA health care. The discussion will begin at 5 p.m. at the legion post 257 in Vineyard Haven. All veterans who participate in the VA health care system are encouraged to attend.
