Ina M. Micheels died peacefully at home in Newton on Nov. 27 surrounded by family.
She was born in the Netherlands, in Amersfoort in 1927 and also lived in Amsterdam. She came with her mother, Mily Polak, to the New York city area in 1938, at age 11. She was married to Louis J. Micheels, a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst for 61 years until his death in 2008.
She attended high school at the Putney School in Vermont, and graduated from Russell Sage College in 1948. Following college she worked as a photographer in a studio that specialized in fashion photography in New York city. Above all she was a family person — a dedicated and loving wife to Louis and mother to Ronald and Elizabeth. She lived for 52 years in Westport, Conn., and then moved to Newton for the last six years of her life. She enjoyed activities including sculpture, photography, competitive sailing with her husband, gardening, visiting art museums and galleries, attending classical music performances and playing with her four grandchildren. She also loved spending time in her second home on the Vineyard where she enjoyed family and friends and the beautiful landscape.
She is survived by her son, Ronald, her daughter, Elizabeth, their spouses, Ann and David, and their children, Graham, Erik, Lia and Wyn.
