The Vineyard Playhouse once again presents Shakespeare for the Masses, tonight and tomorrow night, this time with a lively reading of Troilus and Cressida, one of the Bard’s lesser-known plays, a tragedy.

Troilus and Cressida is a tale of star-crossed lovers, set against the backdrop of the Trojan War. Troilus is the son of Priam, the king of Troy; while his lover, Cressida, is the daughter of a Trojan priest who defects to the Greeks, and in doing so, dooms the blossoming affair. Familiar characters from Homer’s Iliad, such as Achilles, Helen of Troy and Hector also appear.

Doors open at 7 p.m. at the playhouse, located on Church street in Vineyard Haven. Suggested donation is $5. For details, call 508-696-6300, or visit vineyardplayhouse.org.
