Congratulations to Eric and Marguerite Cottle, who celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Feb. 25. They are Chilmarkers with deep roots in Chilmark history. For years they were active in the community and they have many friends who send them many happy wishes.

Chilmark is proud to have two couples celebrating 70th anniversaries this year. Both families represent the past, present and future of the town with their long town associations and both have families coming along to represent them in the future. Eric and Marguerite were married just one month after Ozzie and Rene Fischer . . . it was a good year for marriages and a good year for Chilmark! Cheers to all!

The Chilmark Historical Commission is asking residents for stories and recollections and pictures of the Silva Farm on Tea Lane. They hope to write a brief history of the farm and will welcome any information. Please call me at 508-645-3378 or call town hall and leave a message for me. Thanks.

Town hall reminds us that March 24 is the deadline for submitting papers for running for town jobs. The selectman’s seat held by J.B. Riggs Parker is to be vacated this year as Riggs is retiring. To date, Bill Rossi has taken out papers to run. All citizens of Chilmark are eligible and encouraged to run for town offices. Check with the town clerk for details.

Good luck from us all to Jessica Carlson. She has been nominated for best supporting young actress by the 31st annual Young Artist Awards. She was nominated for her work in the film Vampire’s Assistant by Universal Pictures. The awards will be given on April 11 at the Beverly Garland in Studio City, Calif. Jessica is a lifelong summer resident of Chilmark. Her grandparents are Bob and Barbara Day of West Tisbury.

The Chilmark Church will begin family pizza evenings on Tuesdays starting March 9 at the church. The evening will offer free family fun for all ages.

Sue Larsen has just completed one of her unique ways of training for her Avon Breast Cancer Walk in Boston on May 15 and 16. Last week she walked from lighthouse to lighthouse around the Island. She walked from the Gay Head Light to the Edgartown Light; then the next day she walked from the Edgartown Light to the West Chop Light via the East Chop Lighthouse. And finally, the next day, she walked from Gay Head to the West Chop Lighthouse. She walked on the highways and she walked alone. She chose the lighthouses to underscore the need for light to focus on the need for breast cancer research and cure, and she chose to do something special to thank those who are supporting her. Please remember that donations to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer are tax deductible and will help many on the Vineyard and beyond. Please call Susan at 508-645-3805 for more information.

The Chilmark library will offer a chowder and a movie afternoon on March 10 when the movie will be Breakfast at Tiffany’s. The chowder is free and that movie is delicious! The Friends of the Library will offer one more family movie night on Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. The movie will be 2001: A Space Odyssey. Popcorn and drinks are offered and all are welcome.
