Bashes to Bruches,
Bring in New Year
It’s time to get out your party wear, buy the goofy looking 2011 glasses and ring in the New Year Vineyard style. But waking up with glitter in your hair from the night before isn’t the only way to send 2010 out with a bang, although that is certainly an option.
In Edgartown, bar hoppers will party like it’s 1976 when funk band the Boogies perform at the Wharf Pub. Tickets are $25 and include a champagne toast at midnight. Across the street, the Atlantic Restaurant is serving their regular dinner menu but will spice things up a notch with a deejay throughout the night. For a more low-key Edgartown evening, Alchemy, Lattanzi’s and Détente are all offering prix fixe tasting menus.
If you haven’t had the nerve to belt out a tune or two, Friday’s your last chance this year to partake in karaoke at Season’s in Oak Bluffs. Maybe a glass of champagne after the ball drops will give you even more of an incentive.
Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish will have the crowd dancing all night at the Lambert’s Cove Inn. Diners can listen to Jeremy Berlin play the piano over a four-course meal that includes your choice of a rack of lamb, butter-poached lobster, swordfish, halibut and filet mignon, followed by working off the dinner on the dance floor. The inn will provide hats, noisemakers and, of course, champagne at midnight.
For those looking to nestle in the New Year, the Hob Knob Inn in Edgartown is offering special packages. The New Year’s Party Time package offers a two-night stay, a ticket to the Wharf party, and a much-needed full farm breakfast for the morning after. Other packages include two relaxation massages, champagne and strawberries, or entry into the New Year’s Day 5K Run with complimentary sweatshirts.
The run (or walk) in West Chop begins at 10 a.m. at the Tisbury School and loops around to the American Legion in Vineyard Haven. If you need a moment to meditate during the first day of the year, the Yoga Collective is offering a free New Year’s Day yoga class from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Donations to the class at Island Cohousing will benefit the Vineyard House, a sober living facility for those in early recovery.
Some prefer to burn off the previous night’s festivities, others prefer to keep going. New Year’s Day breakfast is a vital part of a successful celebration. Henry’s at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown will be serving up their renowned brunch, as will the Black Dog Tavern in Vineyard Haven, the Plane View Restaurant at the airport, and Espresso Love in Edgartown.
