Dorothy Jean Cassel of Yarmouthport died April 28 at the Cape Cod Hospital after a series of prolonged illnesses.
She was the wife of the late George Cassel Jr., who died in 2005, and the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Rocha of Vineyard Haven.
Dorothy grew up on the Vineyard and attended the Tisbury School. She met her husband in 1957; he was stationed on the Island with the state police. They moved to Cape Cod in 1959, where they resided and raised their family.
Dot, George and their family loved coming to the Island to visit whenever possible.
She is survived by her four children, Janet and Robert Brodeur of Dennis, Deborah and Bill Donovan of Sandwich, George Cassel 3rd and Christan Redding of Sandwich, and Steven and Kathy Cassel of Sandwich. A fifth child, Joyce, twin to Janet, died at birth. Dorothy was grandmother to Nickolas, Andrew and Mathew Brodeur, Crystal, Aja and Alex Cassel, and great-grandmother to Dominic Cassel. She is also survived by her nieces Wendy Tillman and Kim Munn and her nephew Dana Munn; and great-nieces Pamela Davey and Jacki Flanagan. She was predeceased by her niece Alice Hafner on June 28, 2008, and by her brother Frank Rocha Jr. in 2001.
She will be greatly missed.
A funeral mass was held on May 2 at St. Pius X Church in South Yarmouth. Interment was in the Ancient Cemetery in Yarmouthport. A reception was held at the Yarmouth Inn in Yarmouth.
