A celebration of friendship in memory of Marcy Slater will take place on Sunday, May 17, at 2 p.m. at the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center. There will be songs, poems and stories about friendship, followed by high tea, Marcy’s favorite treat! All are welcome.
Marcy Slater was an active member of the Vineyard community for more than 40 years. Her many activities and contributions to Vineyard life included her longtime participation on the board of the Friends of the Chilmark Library and her volunteer work at the West Tisbury School. She was on the board of the Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center, and a member of the Chilmark Symposium.
The program will include a welcome and introduction from Marcy Slater’s niece Jan Freeman.
She is the author of three books of poetry: Simon Says, Hyena, Autumn Sequence, and a new manuscript, Blue Structure. She is director of Paris Press.
Also on the program are Linda Zeltzer, author of Code Name KC: A True Account of One Osprey, published poet and professor at Harvard University; Dan Waters, former West Tisbury poet laureate and author of several books of poetry, including Needing Winter and Robert Frost’s Answering Machine; Batya Diamond, seasonal Islander, singer/songwriter, teacher and spiritual leader; Joann Green Breuer, author, playwright and theatre director; and Susan Klein, the Vineyard storyteller, author and editor who offers memoir-writing workshops nationally and internationally.
