In ceremonies on Monday, Sept. 14, 2009 at the Martha’s Vineyard Boys’ & Girls’ Club at 44 Robinson Road in Edgartown, the club named its facility as the Anthony H. Meyer Clubhouse. Tony, a resident of Edgartown who died in July of this year, was a longtime supporter and tireless worker for the club.
Howard Miller, the immediate past president, announced that Tony had left $150,000 for the club to establish an endowment fund and $500,000 to create a junior golf program to benefit current and past club members. It was Tony’s hope that the endowment fund would grow to a least $1 million in the next two years and be available to the club as a safety net in years that contributions did not meet budget needs. He described Tony as not only a man for all seasons, but a man for all reasons, whose contributions to the club were so many that words could only begin to describe his dedication and achievements.
At the ceremonies Peter Lambos, the executive director of the club, described for the children present the efforts that so many adults (and particularly Tony) pursue annually to ensure that Vineyard children will be able to keep using the club year after year.
