Linda Berg Debuts New Choral Piece
Linda Berg, organist and choir director of the First Congregational Church in West Tisbury, will introduce her new choral piece, Mass for Creation, on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The original composition, which she had been contemplating for some time, came into being last winter in Colorado, where Linda was visiting her elderly father. Premiering a mass may seem unusual for a Congregational church, but Ms. Berg’s background in the Episcopal church has provided her with a rich foundation for liturgical music.
The mass will feature performances by Susan McGhee, violinist, and Stephen McGhee, cellist. The McGhees, who reside both on the Island and in New York City, are accomplished musicians, widely recognized in their fields. Following the concert, a reception will be held in the Parish Hall. The church is located in the center of West Tisbury on the corner of State Road and Music street. A freewill offering will be received at the door, with a suggested donation of $15. All are welcome.
