The Martha’s Vineyard Rod and Gun Club’s Shotgun Shoot, the annual marksmanship competition the day before the shotgun deer season begins, is open to members and the public on Sunday, Nov. 29. Everyone is eligible for prizes, which include scallops from Coop and hams from Cronig’s.
This highly competitive contest includes the Egg Shoot, the Standing Deer Target and the Over the Shoulder Trap Event is for the best five-out-of-five shots. These last two events will determine the club’s 2009 Top Gun Champion.
Spectators are welcome to watch for free, but there will be a small entry fee for contestants.
Refreshments will be available throughout the day. The event begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m.
This day is open to all hunters on the Island so they may sight in and calibrate their shotguns for the upcoming deer season and the club is making its facilities available so the Island hunters will have a safe and controlled atmosphere in which to prepare for their deer hunting.
