Elizabeth Cameron (Cam) Benedict died Dec. 27 in Madison, Wisc., after a long, hard battle with multiple sclerosis.
Cam was born Feb. 7, 1955 in Ridgewood, N.J. She was the daughter of Harry and Theodora Benedict.
The Benedicts owned a home in East Chop, where they summered for generations before retiring to the Vineyard. Cam moved to the Vineyard after high school.
Cam then moved to Madison, Wisc., but always considered the Vineyard her true home.
Cam was an avid reader, an accomplished tennis player and swimmer. She had a wonderful sense of humor, she was compassionate, a true great storyteller and a huge heart. Cam could not walk into your life without leaving a big footprint. She will be truly and deeply missed.
Survivors include her sister Mary Benedict of San Diego, Calif., and her sister Suzy Howard and nephew Scott Howard of Barrow, Alas.; and her brother Harry Benedict, his wife Allyson and nieces Marissa and Alexandra Benedict of Encinitas, Calif.
Services were held in Madison, Wisc., at the home of Dorothea Kreger, who has cared for Cam for the last seven years. The family would like to give Dorothea a very special thanks for all of the goodness, kindness and love she showed to Cam throughout her time with her.
An additional memorial service is being planned for summer or fall 2008 on the Vineyard.
More information regarding this service is available by calling Suzy Howard at 907-852-4150 or via e-mail at suzyq_4150@hotmail.com.
