Jennie L. Lana of Aquinnah died on her 91st birthday, Jan. 30, with her daughter Susan Lana Shea and her husband Mark Shea by her side at the Windermere Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She spoke so often of “her Aquinnah” up until the end. She lived there as both a summer and year-round resident for over the past 50 years. She loved her roses with rosehips and beachplums, and beach heather all year-around. She would sit on her porch and look out at the ocean, watching the ospreys every year.

She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Joseph Lana Sr. They are both buried in the Aquinnah Cemetery near Chief Donald Malonson and his wife Patsy. They were so very close friends.

She was predeceased by her sister Frances Cassineri and her brothers: Paul, Steven, Edward and Raymond Lasewisz.

She is survived by her sisters, Sophie Silverio of Winsted, Conn. and Margaret Ierardi of Farmington, Conn.

She is survived by her children, Barbara Lana Curran of Fort Myers, Fla., Albert Lana Jr. of Westbrook, Conn., John Lana of Cheshire, Conn., Susan Lana Shea of Aquinnah and Judith Lana Peterson of Underhill, Vt.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Deborah Viglas, Albert Lana 3rd, Joseph Curran, Sheri Ciarleglio, Mary Shea, Dr. Ryan Shea, Jonathan Lana, Abigail Peterson, and Max Peterson. She also had many great-grandchildren that she loved dearly.

Funeral services were held Feb. 2 at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, Oak Bluffs. Services continued at the Aquinnah cemetery.

Donations in her name may be made to The Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) and the Aquinnah Cultural Council, 10 Black Brook Road, Aquinnah MA 02535.
