The Aquinnah Public Library book sale on the porch will have the final sale for this month of $1 books on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There will be a continuing sale during library hours. Please stop by and sign up for the summer reading program and to enjoy the collection of the latest in novels, DVDs, and biographies.
For the month of July, the library will show A Home For Us All, which will be a screening of the film produced by Liz Witham and her husband Ken Wentworth of the Aquinnah Resident Homesite Committee drawing for a youth lot in 2007. On Thursday, July 24, Elizabeth Post Mirel, a seasonal Aquinnah resident, will discuss her newly revised and updated book Plum Crazy: A Book About Beach Plums. On Thursday, July 31, Arnold Zack, a longtime seasonal Aquinnah resident as well as arbitrator, attorney, author, mediator, and Harvard professor, will give a talk on globalization.
On Saturday, June 28, there will be house tours at the Aquinnah Cultural Center at the Vanderhoop Homestead on Aquinnah Circle from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. there will be a class on cornhusk figurines. The class will be $10 per person, which includes materials.
Hannah Malkin has arrived for the summer season at her Aquinnah home.
Genie and Paul O’Donnell of Attaquin Way are anticipating the arrival of their visitors next week of Genie’s sons and their families. Michael Scott, his wife Emily DeFraites (who just completed her residency at New York University) and their baby Illa Grace will relax in Aquinnah before relocating to Los Angeles. Durelle Scott, in the process of relocating from Lincoln, Neb., to a teaching position at Virginia Tech, will be joining one and all for the Fourth of July weekend. Daughters Beatrice and Nola will stay for a while and spend a lot of time at the beach and attend camps at Featherstone. Brigitte, Durelle’s wife, will be in Lincoln working on her master’s degree in education and dreaming of being in Aquinnah next summer.
Condolences to the family and friends of Stuart A. Bangs, a longtime family friend and well-versed Vineyard historian who enjoyed sharing his knowledge with all. Dorothy Bangs taught music to the students at the one-room Gay Head School, and their friendship with the community continued over the decades.

Welcome to James Neville who began his duties with the Aquinnah police as a full-time officer. He recently graduated from the police academy with graduation ceremonies being attended by family, friends, and Chief Randhi P. Belain and Sgt. Paul G. Manning.

Town nurse Juleann VanBelle has rescheduled her July visit, which will now be held on Monday, July 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the town hall. This is an opportunity for all residents of Aquinnah to discuss their medical issues with Juleann, review their current medications and have their blood pressure checked. Carly Simon celebrated her birthday on June 25 while celebrating the release of her new album, which is available at Midnight Farm in Vineyard Haven.
Happy birthday this week to Anna Cotton who will celebrate today and to Jonathan Kaye who shares the day. Belinda Booker will party on June 28 and shares the day with Anthony Corjulo. Marilyn Maynard will observe her special day on June 29 and is enjoying the summer at her home in Aquinnah overlooking Vineyard Sound.
Elaine Diotima Vogel Vanderhoop will party on July 1 as will Stephanie Devine. Albert Hutchinson will observe a major milestone on July 2.
