Florence M. Stacy, 80, Enjoyed Island Activities

Florence M. Stacy, R.N. of Edgartown died on Friday, Nov. 17 at home. She was the devoted wife of Walter H. Stacy.

Florence was born in Lowell on Dec. 15, 1925, a daughter of Harold and Florence Waight. She graduated from Lowell High School, where she was a girl officer and a baton twirler. She graduated from Saint John's School of Nursing in Lowell as a registered nurse.

She was the niece of Mildred Waight and Albion and Charlotte Waight with whom she spent her childhood summers in Edgartown. This continued each summer and she moved to the Island full time with her husband upon his retirement in 1986. Once on the Island, she took up many hobbies, including gardening, fishing and scalloping. She learned to cane chairs and needlepoint while she was here and won awards for both at the annual Martha's Vineyard Agricultural Fair. She also loved golfing, traveling, yard sales, bicycling and spoiling her family and her cats.

She is survived by her husband, Walter H. Stacy; two daughters, Ann Stacy of Lowell and Gail Norden and her husband Peter of Dracut; one grandson, Carl Norden of Boulder Creek, Calif., as well as many nieces and nephews.

A private service was held. Arrangements are under the care of Chapman, Cole & Gleason in Oak Bluffs.
