Melissa Cross, 61, Summered at Lake Tashmoo

Melissa (Fuller) Cross of Mansfield died on Monday, May 8, surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter in Alpharetta, Ga. She was the beloved wife of Robert P. Cross. She was 61.

Born in Boston on August 28, 1944, Mimi was a dear daughter of the late Norman and Jane (Tuttle) Fuller.

She was educated in Walpole schools and was graduated from Walpole High School. She went on to graduate from Chandler College in Boston.

Mimi had a special affection for Martha's Vineyard, where she summered on Lake Tashmoo every year of her life and introduced its rare beauty to her children and grandchildren. Her artistic skills are well known to family and friends in the form of oil and watercolor paintings. In more recent years, she also achieved perfection in the art of weaving Nantucket baskets. Melissa's special gift to her many friends and family was her grace toward everyone she came to know.

She had made her home in Mansfield since 1993 and was formerly of East Greenwich, R.I., and Walpole. In addition to summering on the Vineyard, she was also a winter resident of Venice, Fla.

In addition to her beloved husband, Robert, she is survived by her loving and devoted children, Laurie J. Hagerty and her husband, Peter, of Alpharetta, Ga., Robert H. Cross and his wife, Heather, of Rehoboth, Jeffrey P. Cross and his wife, Jodi, of Norton and Melinda A. Sansoucy and her husband, Michael, of Sturbridge. She is also survived by her dear sister, Melinda Loberg of Tisbury, and by her 11 loving grandchildren.

Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday, May 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main street in Mansfield.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 16, at 2 p.m. at the Grace Episcopal Church in Vineyard Haven. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Vineyard Haven.
