Madeleine Condon Was a Native of Switzerland
Madeleine Montabert Condon, 82, died at her home in Oak Bluffs on Thursday, August 12, after a long illness. Mrs. Condon spent her childhood years in Geneva, Switzerland, and came to this country at the age of 16, not knowing a word of English. She attended Drew Prep School and then was graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1943.
Throughout her life, Mrs. Condon remained an active member of the Mount Holyoke Alumni Association. For many years she was the President of F.G. Montabert and Company, a multinational packaging company, located in New York city and Midland Park, N.J.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Carlton J. Condon, and by her children, Fred M. Condon and his wife, Carlene, of Edgartown, and Jacqueline Condon Johnson and her husband, David, of Ridgefield, Conn. She was a loving and vibrant grandmother to Scott, Sean, Christopher, Matthew, Alexis and MacKenzie. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, August 21, from 3 to 5 p.m. at her home, 10 Tamarack Lane (Farm Neck), Oak Bluffs.
